Harbor Bible Study – Season 3 – Episode 4
Season 3 – The Psalms Episode 4 – Psalm 145 with Rabbi Dr. Daniel Rosenberg
Harbor Church is a community where all are welcome and safe.
Explore Harbor Church for yourself.
Harbor Church is… a safe space… a brave space.
A space where we practice Everyday Discipleship.
Harbor Church is a multicultural, intergenerational congregation. We are open to any and all who are looking to grow in Christian faith, to honestly engage and ask questions in order to broaden and deepen faith, and to earnestly support one another in community.
On Sunday afternoons, we gather together for worship just south of downtown Phoenix. We also gather in one another’s homes around the dinner table to share meals, and in living rooms to study the Bible or to make music. And currently, we gather online to be together digitally, even though we are separated physically.
The community of Harbor became a church so that we could honestly and earnestly engage in the Christian life with other believers. We became a church for those for who could no longer stay in church but couldn’t walk away either. We became a church because we wanted and needed to spur one another on to love and good deeds.
We believe there is one true, holy God who eternally exists in three co-equal persons: Father, Son, & Holy Spirit. God alone is worthy of our worship. God was, is, and will be at work in the world through creating, redeeming, and sustaining. God incarnated, coming in the flesh as Jesus Christ. Jesus modeled faithfulness in his life for all generations. He was crucified, buried, and resurrected providing salvation. The Holy Spirit is with us today as the presence of God in our lives and in our world.
We believe that the Bible is the unparalleled, inspired word of God. It is the guiding document for all we are and do. It is to be read in context and not wielded as a weapon. It requires the community to study in humility, grace, and wisdom. The Bible is central to all doctrinal positions and ways of living, and is held in a place of priority in the conversation with tradition, reason, and experience.
We believe that our faith is necessary in every element of our lives, whether we are gathered as the church, a worshipping community of believers, or living Christianly in our places of work, school, or service. We seek to be wise stewards of all the resources, big and small, we are given. In so doing, we encourage a life of contentment so that we may bless others with the blessings we have received. We take seriously our call to everyday discipleship.
We believe that God knew we would need each other and so created the church. It is in community where transformation, support, encouragement, and accountability all take place. The noble task of the church is one of passing from one generation to the next the traditions of the faith. We believe it is important to be community more than merely talking about being community. This means that our weekly gathering for worship will often look like a typical church service, sometimes look like a pot luck with great conversation and prayer, and occasionally look like community service, music-making get-togethers, or a party.
We believe that all people are precious and created in the image of God. No one is excluded from being loved by God. Consequently, no one is excluded from being in fellowship with the church. We all come with our own gifts, graces, and abilities. We seek to accommodate as we are made aware and as we are able in order to allow each and every person to worship fully as they give and receive in community.
All who are looking to grow in the Christian faith are welcome here. Whether you know very little about Jesus or have known Him your whole life, come visit or join our community as we seek to engage in living Christian lives.
This is a safe space – a brave space. A space where you can ask questions and wrestle with ideas. It’s ok to come even if you don’t know exactly what you believe. That’s why we’re here. We try to point people in the right direction – towards Jesus.
